Alex in Wonderland

I recently composed the music and vocal sound design for an interesting little animation project called Alex in Wonderland.

The idea was to create a vocal soundtrack for a film that brings together visuals, sound and smell.  It premiered at the Rubin Museum in New York and there’s a great write up by Motherboard.Vice.Com here

90% of the sounds heard in the film are created vocally.  I wanted to capture how I “hear” colour and taste and as a result worked with vocalising frequencies and then shaped them around the visuals.  I also used physical gestures and voice to create the whooshes, sea, fireworks.  A lot of the themes in the film where new to me, especially trying to vocalise the taste and sensation of Pineapple, for instance. For me, it’s a very personal experience of bringing together sound, colour and smell and this was a great way to start these new multi-sensory explorations.  More soon…
